Critic’s Rating: 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)

Directed by GVR Vasu, Hattrick Hero Shivaraj Kumar’s Kavacha is the high-profile movie to release this weekend. Having been postponed for multiple times, Kavacha finally found the release date as the movie kick-starts what would be an important summer for Sandalwood. Priyadarshan and Mohanlal created a masterpiece with Oppam in Mollywood and read on to find out how the Shivanna-Vasu combo has done at the theatres.

A Supreme Court judge trusts Shivanna with a secret and the responsibility to look after his daughter before getting killed. Being a visually challenged man, Shivanna must now uncover a lot of truths and also avert the danger of a serial killer played by Vasishta Simha.

Kavacha has a good story at its core with plenty of potential. However, unlike the original, the makers have gone with an approach to make a movie which will impress all the sectors of the audience. While the family audience can enjoy the emotional scenes in the film, the youngsters will be happy with the multiple twists in the movie. However, it is the decision of the makers to satisfy the mass audience which could backfire. A lot of such scenes and sequences interrupt the pace of the film.

Shivanna has selected an off-beat character and it is good to see him in such character oriented roles at this stage of his career. Vasishta scores brownie points for his portrayal of a serial killer. Isha Kopikkar and Kruthika have done well too as the female leads.

Cinematography has been affected by the maker’s intention to make a commercial movie with a lot of twists. The glossy nature of the film dilutes the impact of the story. Editing and music are in line with the flow of the movie.

However, the pre-climax and the nail-biting climax have been shot in a convincing way which could well make the audience happy when they leave the theatres. On the outset, Kavacha is a good film which is definitely worth a try on the Ugadi weekend.
